Psychosocial keys to dance

The urge to move to the beat of music seems like an innate ability in humans. This ability is thought to have played a prominent role in the evolution of social relationships.

When dancing, various brain regions are activated: the cortical areas responsible for hearing and body movements, as well as the cerebellar centers and other deeper structures that contribute to rhythmic movement.

Dancing encourages child socialization and can be used as a therapeutic technique in patients with Parkinson’s disease or dementia.
